Playing with Tine Thing Helselth!

I played for several small Orpheus Chamber Orchestra events this year, and they were all great fun! One of the most memorable was the chance to play with the amazing trumpet virtuoso Tine Thing Helselth at the Consul General of Norway’s home as a preview event for her Carnegie Hall debut a few days later.

GRAMMY Salute to Classical Music at Carnegie Hall

Happened in January and I forgot to post – but this was an exciting concert to celebrate the legacy of Leonard Bernstein, with his own daughter Jamie Bernstein and Lang Lang hosting the special event. The Lang Lang Young Scholars performed three-piano arrangements of West Side Story and Candide, and we shared the stage with Kiana Ledé, Ledisi, Time For Three, and Isabel Leonard. It was a particularly moving concert as half of the audience filling the Issac Stern Hall were children brought in to share the event!

A Season of Fantastic Chamber Music

I so greatly enjoyed performing with the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players throughout this season, and I was thrilled to collaborate with the amazing musicians Paul Neubauer, Frank Morelli, Josef Spacek, Areta Zhulla, Zlatomir Fung and so many others! My favorite performances? Hard to say – but the rarely heard Marcel Tyberg Piano Trio was certainly up there, along with Joseph Jongen Rhapsody (for wind quintet and piano) and the brilliant Saint-Saëns Piano Quartet.

Sing For Hope 2017 Gala at Tribeca Rooftop

I was so honored to be a part of Sing For Hope’s Gala at Tribeca Rooftop as a last minute replacement for superstar Lea Salonga! Sing For Hope is an amazing organization that every single day uplifts lives through music and art. I was proud to be a part of their annual fundraiser, and hope to continue to be a part of their daily mission – to transform lives by bringing the power of the arts to those who need it the most.

Performing on Carnegie Hall’s Opening Night Gala!

What an unbelievable honor to make my Philadelphia Orchestra debut at Carnegie Hall’s Opening Night Gala together with Lang Lang, jazz legend Chick Coera, and Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

– New York Classical Review: “A recent injury to Lang’s left hand, however, necessitated calling in reinforcements, in the person of Maxim Lando, a 14-year-old alumnus of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation who already has considerable international experience playing some of the most challenging works in the piano repertoire. Seated at Lang’s left, young Lando contributed not just Gershwin’s original left-hand part but some witty and stylish two-handed solos, and wasn’t shy about reaching over his mentor’s right hand to make a point in the treble. The applause for the two superstars and the brave young virtuoso was ecstatic.”

– Zealnyc: “This worked shockingly well. In fact, the three pianists—Lang, Corea, and young Mr. Lando—gave a performance of the Rhapsody for the ages. Overall, the three highly individual artists achieved an astounding musical synergy.”

Debut with Vancouver Symphony at the sold out Orpheum!

It was a fantastic debut concert with Maestro Bramwell Tovey and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra last month. Lang Lang and I performed Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue – as well as works by Saint-Saens, Bernstein, Tchaikovsky, and Chopin to a sold out audience. It was a wonderful evening in the absolutely gorgeous Orpheum Theater, and I was thrilled for the opportunity to work with Lang Lang and Maestro Tovey!

Words from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: “[Lang Lang] and Maxim intertwined arms and moved as one otherworldly creature, almost unaware of the dance-like quality of the dreamy trance they had put themselves into. It was like watching musical ecstasy, the synergy and magic of the motion captivated the audience from start to the very end of George Gershwin’s masterpiece, “Rhapsody in Blue.” One for the ages, indeed.”

Playing with Vadim Gluzman and Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players

I collaborated with Vadim Gluzman (whose performance of Tchaikovsky violin concerto I have long obsessed over), performed a Lowell Liebermann sextet with the Jupiter winds, and had my first experience performing the Bach/Brahms Chaconne in D minor for left hand – one of the most powerful works ever written!

Performing with Maestro Vladimir Fedoseyev in Moscow!

I had a fantastic return trip to Moscow to perform with Maestro Vladimir Fedoseyev and the Tchaikovsky Grand Symphony Orchestra! The concert was held at the outdoor Water Stage of the VDNKh Green Theater and broadcast live on Russian TVKultura’s 20th season anniversary celebration.

Aspen Music Festival and Oyster Bay Music Festival

I had a wonderful first experience at Aspen Music Festival this past summer, followed by my sixth season at Oyster Bay Music Festival (my “home” festival)! I enjoyed fantastic collaborations, good friends, and many wonderful concerts.

Featured on TV Kultura show “Tsarskaya Lodge”

It was an honor to be featured on the popular TV Kultura show “Tsarkaya Lodge” after a performance of Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3 with Mariinsky Theater Orchestra at the Mariinsky Theater Concert Hall! The concert was part of the 22nd International Musical Olympus Festival in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Performance for the Historic Opening of Steinway and Sons in Beijing, China
