I had a wonderful opportunity to be part of another “Keys of Inspiration” program, this time at a public school in Brooklyn. I performed with Lang Lang and Clayton (another Young Scholar) during a special assembly at the school. They were celebrating and introducing a partnership with LLIMF to implement a music education program with a focus on piano playing.
The day before the concert, I went with Lang Lang to the Time Warner building in NYC for an interview on CNN. They asked us questions about the importance of music education in our schools and in general, and even though it was kind of hard to answer on the spot –the questions really got me thinking. Why should music be less important then math, science, english, or any other subject in school? Music is a universal language that everyone in the world can speak, or at least understand! So why is music the first subject to get cut in schools?
