We arrived at Oyster Bay around 9:00am to play air hockey with my friends! Out of thirty high school and college age music students, there were only four of us 9 year olds (actually one is still 8). Everyone nicknamed us “The Trouble Makers” right away! Soon we started the day with a masterclass and then performed another concert at Not Just Art where we paid attention to all the students playing this time (instead of horsing around)! Then we ate lunch where we all ran like crazy people! Finally we had one last masterclass in the day, so we took it really seriously! At 6:30 we had an outdoor concert at Cruise Night, where people come to show off their fancy antique cars and motorcycles!
I played under a tent in the middle of the street where Steinway and Sons had donated a beautiful grand piano!
We were right next to Billy Joel”s very cool motorcycle shop, and Billy Joel was even there listening to us (you can see him in the photo)!!!! At 8:00pm we ran back to Christ Church for our evening concert! Our theme was “Italian Night” so we only played Italian music like Vivaldi, Verdi, Scarlatti, and many others! I played Liszt, who isn’t Italian but spent a lot of his life living in Rome!
