We arrived at Oyster Bay around 9:30 to have a masterclass right away because this day was going to be a very full day! After the masterclass we performed at the the Life Enrichment Center at about 12:30! After that we ate lunch where we all went to the park to play on the swings! After lunch we had a very serious masterclass because it was the last day of Oyster Bay – oh no! Then I played in a concert at the Raynham Museum where we got to see really old things! Finally after the museum we had our final concert in Christ Church.

Company performance of John Cage’s 4’33

It was Night of the Americas, so we played all North and South American music. For the very last piece we all played 4’33 by John Cage, but we explained that for people who know this piece it could get a little bit repetitive so we will be performing the piece without repeats (a 2’16.5 version)!!!! Now for people who don’t know John Cage’s 4:33, the piece is exactly 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence! Whatever noise the audience makes becomes the music! We all stood on the stage in silence, then everyone bowed when the time was up for the piece. I think that we sounded great! In the very beginning of the piece we even had everyone tune their instruments to the piano! One of the students was the conductor so he stood up with a watch and stared at the watch until the exact time had passed! The rest of the show was great and that was our big ending!

After the concert we had a wonderful party where we all ate food and made ourselves sick! But then at the end nobody was there anymore. The Oyster Bay Festival was done. Don’t feel bad because we are going to have another music festival next year. I can’t wait!!!!

P.S. So now do you think classical music has died?
